Sustainable Enterprises Media, Inc. (SEM), parent company of GreenBusinessOwner.com, is currently hiring two (2) positions for its San Francisco headquarters.

The mission of SEM is to facilitate the creation and success of small green businesses by leveraging economies of scope to make sustainable business solutions affordable to and productive for all entrepreneurs.

SEM, through its web portal GreenBusinessOwner.com, offers its members access to information, tools, resources, and interactive communication to help small businesses leverage the power of sustainability to solve common business problems. SEM provides sustainability consulting and small business coaching every entrepreneur can afford.

SEM shares an office building with other leaders of the sustainable business and non-profit community, including Global Exchange and Green America. The office is located right near BART in the Mission District of San Francisco.

SEM also believes in work-life balance and encourages workers to take every other Friday off.


Full-Time Contract-to-Hire

Ideal candidate will have experience with application of sustainability principles on the scale of small businesses, proving both tangible benefits such as return on investment as well as softer metrics such as employee engagement and customer loyalty. In-depth knowledge of the green economy, from sustainable food to green building to renewable energy is desirable in a candidate for the position. Ability to find accurate and relevant information and use it to develop materials highly desirable. Useful software skills include expertise in MS suite, Pages, Keynote, basic HTML, and Camtasia.

Contractor will be responsible for duties as follows:
1. Strategic development of communication systems with SEM clients, including webinars, teleconferences, and social media platforms
2. Research in support of and production of industry-standard business tools for small business owners that leverage the power of the triple bottom line
3. Preparation and management of sustainability-related content on GreenBusinessOwner.com including blog articles, discussion forums, and classified advertisements
4. Direct Sales to new members
5. Set up and lead social media outreach platforms for SEM that will attract and engage customers and the community
6. Assist and participate in SEM's first Social Entrepreneurship Boot Camp, in August 2010


The position is open until filled, and will run 4 months before reevaluation.

Compensation commensurate with experience. Base pay plus company-performance bonuses. Range is $3,000-$5,000 per month.

Paid Summer Internship

Ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude and a desire to help change the world for the better by helping small businesses successfully implement and integrate sustainability as a management strategy.

Intern will be responsible for duties as follows:
1. Support content development by conducting research, generating ideas, and summarizing relevant literature for GBO staff
2. Direct communication with existing customers to provide exceptional customer service
3. Participate in social media outreach platforms for SEM that will attract and engage customers and the community
4. Represent SEM by attending occasional evening and weekend networking events (evening/weekend hours to be offset with daytime hours so that workload never exceeds 40 hours per week)
5. Preparation of materials for broadcasted webinars, radio interviews/podcasts
6. Assist and Participate in SEM's first Social Entrepreneurship Boot Camp, scheduled for August 2010


The position is open until filled, and is flexible schedule-wise to accomodate students.

Compensation includes a guaranteed base of at least $2,000 for a successfully completed internship, with incentives for company-wide performance that can make total pay for the summer up to $5,000.
